Need Help With Paying for College?
It is important to be aware of how much the cost of attendance is for universities: for example whether or not you're in state or out-of-state drastically changes the price of tuition. Equally, the location of the university determines how high or low the cost of living is.
Kahn Academy has a unit that focuses on the factors that contribute to the cost of attendance. They also have a segment that is in the same unit that goes over the FAFSA and the importance of being strategic with scholarship applications. Each of these videos provides a deeper look into the frequently asked questions regarding financial aid.

Want to Learn More about the CSS Profile?
The CSS Profile, through the College Board, is an application that links students with non-federal scholarships and institutional aid. The FAFSA differs, as it encompasses federal aid. The CSS profile is used by thousands of universities across the states; the link for the CSS profile will be below, as well as the participating list of schools and FAQ.

Are Advanced Placement (AP) Classes Worth it?
The College Board recognizes dozens of high school classes as being akin to university courses called "Advanced Placement" classes. The content is designed to be more rigorous than the high school equivalents. Depending on your high school, there is an array of AP courses available to take. The advantage of taking such classes includes better test-taking and study skills, transferrable college units, and a boost to your GPA.
It is important to note that the universities can accept or deny any AP credit. Some universities only accept scores above 4, for example, on certain AP tests. It's worth it to find out what tests are accepted by the institutions in which you are applying. The college board has an AP search engine. I'll link it and some other helpful links below:

What is the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG)?
TAG refers to an agreement between California Community Colleges and six of the UC campuses (Davis, Irvine, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Riverside, and Merced) that guarantees any qualifying student a spot in the aforementioned universities.
So long as the program requirements are met prior to transferring and the application is turned in on time (September 30 for fall, May 31 for winter/spring).
If you do not turn in the TAG before the due date, don't worry! You can still complete the UC application on time! When applying, you can apply to any of the UC schools (Los Angeles, Berkeley, San Diego, Davis, Irvine, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Riverside, and Merced).

Reading for leisure is an important part of my life, and I urge everyone to choose a book that's interesting and read at least 20 minutes a day. Reading provides a great escape and relief from technology, as well as some exercise for the brain. As a student, it's rewarding to be in control of what you read. What are you reading?
Did you know that "animal therapy" has been shown to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety in humans?
